The Florence County Detention Center officially opened in 1984. It was not until 2005 when the Florence County Detention Center underwent a renovation and expansion.

The original 1984 jail could only house 39 inmates, but with the new expansion, the Florence County Detention Center can now house up to 614 inmates.

Typically, the Florence County Detention Center will only house 20 inmates who are not residents of the county. These inmates will be obligated to pay a room and board fee of $55 per day.

Visitors will be required to leave everything in their car or with a person who will NOT be visiting. Correctional officers will NOT allow anything in the visitation area.
