Butler County Jail is a medium-security detention center that is located in David City, Nebraska. The city once had the highest suicide rates of any other city in the country. Most of the inmates sentenced here will not be serving longer than two years in jail.

The jail also accepts inmates from surrounding municipalities and from the U.S. Marshal’s Service. The Butler County Jail is run by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, and most of the inmates are waiting for trial and/or sentencing.

The Butler County Jail also has a work-release program. Inmates are released from jail during the days, so that they can work. You should apply to the work release program before being sentenced, as this will minimize the time it takes to potentially get into the program.

Inmates can make outbound calls that are quite expensive, and add up to around $15 each for those who choose to receive the call.

The Butler County Jail was originally built in 1963.

  1. Allows for unlimited sending and receiving of mail to inmates.

  2. Allows for an unlimited amount of pages, and allows writing on both sides of the paper.

Photographs are a more sensitive issue. Inmates cannot have more than three photographs in their possession at any given time, and they must be no larger than 4” by 6”

Newspapers, magazines, and books can only be received as new, from the publisher, and if the inmate is staying at the facility for longer than 30 days. The material cannot incite race violence, or violence of any kind. It cannot encourage any sort of unlawful behavior, either.
