Charles H. Hickey Jr. School, located in Baltimore, Maryland, opened in November 1989 to confine Maryland’s most dangerous male inmates. It currently has a capacity of 72 inmates and is Maryland’s largest maximum-security facility. A double perimeter fence reinforced with razor wire and an electronic detection system surrounds the facility.

The population is primarily comprised of close custody and administrative segregation inmates. Charles H. Hickey Jr. School also operates the state Secure Mental Health Facility, houses inmates under the death sentence, and inmates who are civil commitments.

Visitation

Visitors must fill out an application and it must be approved in order to visit. Visiting is held four days per week and the inmates are divided into groups according to cell blocks. You must arrive 30 minutes prior to the visiting times in order to be processed for visitation.

A dress code for visitation is required, instructing that visitors be covered from the neck to knees with clothing that is not revealing, see-through, or contains offensive symbols or words. Watches, wearable technology, and cell phones are not allowed.
