Beacon Center, located in Englewood, Colorado, opened in November 1989 to confine Colorado’s most dangerous male inmates. A double perimeter fence reinforced with razor wire and an electronic detection system surrounds the facility.

The population is primarily comprised of close custody and administrative segregation inmates. Beacon Center also operates the state Secure Mental Health Facility, houses inmates under the death sentence, and inmates who are civil commitments.

Inmates at Beacon Center have access to various treatment and rehabilitation programs, including substance abuse programs. The School services the Colorado prison system, where it offers basic education and general education diplomas. The school also offers vocational and technical training to students, which is meant to be used to help them transition into either postsecondary programs or job training programs.

Sending a Mail/Care Package

At Beacon Center, all letters will be photocopied, and these copies will be delivered to inmates. A maximum of three 8 ½ x 11-inch pages (front and back) of each mailing will be delivered. Any additional items, such as cash, checks, postage stamps, or prepaid envelopes will be discarded.

Sending Money

There are several options for sending money to an inmate at Beacon Center including sending money orders, cashier’s checks, personal checks and using your debit/credit card. There is a daily limit of $300. Click here to read more about these options.

Phone calls

Inmates at Beacon Center are allowed to make phone calls through the system if there is money in the inmate’s account. At no time can an offender receive an incoming call.

Family and friends are required to create an account to deposit the funds, as well as receive calls from the inmate. An inmate must put those they wish to call on an approved caller list. All calls are a maximum of 30 minutes in duration and may be recorded or monitored for security reasons.

Visitation

Visitors must fill out an application and it must be approved in order to visit. Visiting is held four days per week and the inmates are divided into groups according to cell blocks. You must arrive 30 minutes prior to the visiting times in order to be processed for visitation.

A dress code for visitation is required, instructing that visitors be covered from the neck to knees with clothing that is not revealing, see-through, or contains offensive symbols or words. Watches, wearable technology, and cell phones are not allowed.

The use of tobacco products on this property is not allowed which includes parking areas.
