Sending a Mail/Care Package

Inmates at the Tucson United States Penitentiary are allowed to receive books, magazines, and newspapers directly from the publisher. All reading material sent to the inmate must be paperback and new.

The only packages inmates are allowed to receive from home are the ones that contain release clothing and authorized medical devices. Inmates are required to have written approval from the inmate's authorized staff member at the prison before an inmate is allowed to receive a package sent from home.

The prison staff examines all incoming and outgoing packages/mail.

The staff at the Tucson United States Penitentiary encourages family and friends to keep in touch with inmates by writing them letters. Offensive and sexual materials are prohibited.

Sending Money

The only way an inmate can make purchases from the Tucson United States Penitentiary commissary is if a loved one funds their account. If you would like to fund an inmate’s account you can do so through one of the following options.

Money Order

You can fund an inmate’s account by sending a money order to the prison. This option takes the longest but there is no service charge to use this service. Be sure to send your money order via United States Postal Service.

Western Union

If you are looking for a quicker option you can fund an inmate's account by using Western Union. There is a service fee to use this service but the inmate will have the funds available in their account very quickly.

You will need the information listed below to use this service:

  • Inmate's eight-digit register number & inmate's last name (example: 87654321DOE).

  • Inmate’s full committed name on the Attention Line

  • Code City is FBOP, DC

MoneyGram

You can also transfer funds electronically by using the MoneyGram option as well. The information listed below will be needed to use this service:

  • Inmate's eight-digit register number & inmate's last name (example: 87654321DOE).

  • Company name is Federal Bureau of Prisons.

  • City & State is Washington, DC

  • Receive Code is 7932.

  • Beneficiary is the inmate’s full committed name.

Phone calls

Depending on the inmate’s restrictions each inmate has different phone time privileges. Inmates at the Tucson United States Penitentiary have the option to make collect calls or they may purchase a phone calling plan. All phone calls are monitored and recorded.

Visitation

Make sure you are on the inmates approved visiting list and approved by the BOP before you plan your trip to visit an inmate. This form must be filled out by the inmate then sent to you. Be sure to fill out your portion and make sure you send it back to the inmate.
