The Whittier Community Jail is nestled in Whittier, Alaska. The correctional facility first opened its doors back in 1966. Ever since it first opened its doors it has been in constant operation housing offenders throughout the decades.

Sending a Mail/Care Package

A cheaper alternative to stay in contact with an inmate in the correctional facility is to write to them.

Inmates can send you and receive your letters. Inmates mail will be checked by a correctional officer prior to being hand delivered to the inmate it is made out to.

Sending Money

Inmates will need money for their commissary account when they are in the Whittier Community Jail. The Whittier Community Jail accepts money orders. You can drop off the money order in the Whittier Community Jail lobby.

Phone calls

Phone calls are a staple in the Whittier Community Jail. The telephones are in the common areas. The telephones are available for use from 7 am to 10 pm. Inmates are limited to having 15-minute length conversations.

All calls are going to be collect calls and will require you to have a landline phone in order to receive these types of phone calls.

Visitation

As of late, the Whittier Community Jail does have their visitation schedule changing. You will need to get in contact with the correctional facility at the number provided to get the current inmate visitation schedule.

When visiting an inmate, you will need to have a proper photo identification card with you. You will be required to be dressed appropriately and be at least 18 years of age.

The Whittier Community Jail can refuse your visit for any reason they see fit. A visit here at the facility is a privilege and not a right.
